What are article levels?

Article levels are my rating of quality. Level 1 articles are the lowest quality, and level 3 articles are the highest quality.

Why are you doing this?

It takes a long time to write comprehensive, top-quality articles. A detailed article such as the grips guide is the product of careful thought and many revisions.

All this time, my readers are waiting for new content. I have decided, therefore, to adopt a multi-stage publishing process that allows me to publish articles more quickly. Articles will be upgraded in quality as I add to them and refine them.

By covering a wider range of topics, this site will be more useful to badminton players.

So you’re sacrificing quality for speed?

Temporarily, yes. In the longer term, no.

Eventually, I intend all articles to reach the highest standard of quality, and become level 3 articles.

Who judges the quality?

I do. I assign article levels purely to inform you, the reader, how far the article has developed. It’s my way of saying this one isn’t finished, or this is one of my best articles.

Other people will make different assessments. You are welcome to disagree!

What are the different levels?

Level 1: Early draft

Level 1 articles are basic guides. They tend to cover only the essentials of a topic, leaving out many nuances. They don’t cite sources, and may occasionally be vague or contain inaccuracies.

At this early stage of development, the advice is mostly my own opinion, with little rigorous cross-checking from sources of authority. These articles may lack photographs or illustrations. I also will probably not yet have bothered to separate advice for different skill levels.

Nevertheless, these articles are better than most other guides you will find on the internet. My minimum standards are high!

Level 2: Good article

Level 2 articles are substantial. They offer detailed information, although they may not be comprehensive. They are logically structured and well organised.

At this stage I’ve been working on the article for a while and have started to refine it. The text should be complemented by illustrations or photographs (where appropriate), but there may be a few missing. References to sources may be missing or incomplete.

Where appropriate, these articles will be customised for different skill levels (so beginners are not overwhelmed by all the details).

Level 3: Definitive article

Level 3 articles are comprehensive guides to a topic. They are among the best teaching resources in badminton.

Each of these articles is the product of careful work over a period of many months (or years, in some cases). Sources will be listed in detail.

Left-handed?

All the instructions in the Badminton Bible are written for right-handed players.

If you are left-handed, you’ll have to reverse the instructions in your head. Every time I write right, you should think left, and vice-versa.

Sorry about that!
