Using deception in singles

Home > Tactics > Singles > Deception

Deception overview

Learning how to use deception opens up entirely new possibilities for winning rallies.

If you successfully deceive your opponent, he will move in the wrong direction before you hit the shuttle. Then, when you play a different shot, it will be extremely hard for him to change direction.

Using deception in the forecourt

Forecourt deception usually involves faking a soft shot before playing a more powerful one; but occasionally this is reversed.

Using deception in the rearcourt

Rearcourt deception usually involves faking a powerful shot before playing a soft shot. This is the opposite way around from typical forecourt deception.

This method can occasionally be reversed, however.
